Building a more climate friendly way of producing food
We make food from responsibly produced raw materials in the middle of the cleanest nature in the world. Fresh air, abundant water resources and a high level of expertise available make the Baltic Sea region an excellent place for responsible food production.
Climate
We produce food in our production units in Finland and Poland. By emissions from our own production, we mean emissions caused by our production, for example from the processes, heating and cooling in the production units, and commuting. In addition to climate emission, we reduce other environmental impact of our production, for example by promoting material efficiency.
Our climate target supports our journey towards the international framework and the Paris Climate Agreement target.
- Carbon-neutral own production by the end of 2025
- Net zero for all greenhouse gas emissions by 2050
Water
Finland is one of the northernmost countries where farming is practiced. The harsh winter climate reduces the need for herbicides and pesticides in feed production. This, along with the abundance of clean water, allows us to offer our consumers the highest quality meat products produced in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.
Sustainable packaging
In the development of responsible packaging, our focus is on recyclability and the use of renewable materials. In 2023, we were the first food company in Finland to sign the Green Deal commitment to reduce single-serve plastic packaging.
We have set ambitious goals for our packaging by the end of 2030:
- 100% recyclable packaging
- 80% of packaging renewable or recycled materials
Our packaging responsibility targets are aligned with the objectives of the European Union's Circular Economy Package and Plastics Strategy. In terms of packaging recyclability, we support efforts to develop the recycling infrastructure in our home markets by introducing packaging that is technically recyclable. In addition, we are systematically increasing the use of renewable and recycled materials, where it is feasible in terms of the safety and shelf life of food.

Biodiversity
We are committed to increasing biodiversity in our food chain. We promote biodiversity on farms and in our own production as well as through responsible procurement practices.
In our own production, minimizing environmental impact while respecting nature is a key priority. For example, effective water use and careful wastewater treatment support biodiversity in the environment around our production units.
Through our responsible sourcing policies, we reduce the impact of raw material production on biodiversity loss. The use of responsibly certified soy and palm oil ensures that the raw material supply chain is sustainable and that producers are audited. In our food chains in Finland, only responsibly produced soy is used. We are committed to using 100% responsibly sourced soy by 2025.
